For her site-specific work In Absence of the L's Mother in Ehrenfeld, artist belit sağ invited young women from the Bosnian Islamic Cultural Community Gazi Husrevbeg to reinterpret archived family photos of the migrant women in reenactments. In her 3-channel video installation, sağ assembled the historical and newly created material with recordings of religious chants, the "Ilahi," to create a new narrative. As a counter-design to the preservative practice of archives, she deliberately brought them back into public space. In the absence of the mother of the L. was created as part of the discourse program Memory Lab, a laboratory for collective memory practices. Memory Lab is a series of events organized by the Akademie der Künste der Welt in cooperation with DOMiD - Dokumentationszentrum und Museum über die Migration in Deutschland e.V. and is funded by the Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung.
