TAPE THAT is a Berlin based collective of five artists founded in 2011. Inspired by the possibility of creating something new from an everyday object, tape has become the artists' main medium. With roots in urban art, TAPE THAT's works range from complex and colourful tape and light installations to minimalist black and white murals. These tape artworks can be found in a wide variety of places, such as underground nightclubs, abandoned buildings, exhibition spaces and galleries. Although the focus is on Berlin, the collective also travels internationally.
"Our fascination with tape art lies in the combination of endless creative possibilities and the natural limits that are given when dealing with tape. The different properties of this medium and the way it influences our creative process constantly challenge and inspire us. It's important for us to incorporate the environment when creating a new work to create an individual and contextually relevant impact."
In cooperation with CityLeaks, the tape collective will artistically design and visually transform the street space of Hüttenstraße. By means of various subversive interventions with regard to the traffic-related use of Hüttenstraße, the usual view and everyday routines are to be questioned and the topics of mobility turnaround and appropriation of public space are to be triggered in a creative way.
